• End-of-year Meetings for full-time faculty and staff at the Metropolitan Campus will be held in May. The faculty meeting will be held on Monday, May 17, 2–4 p.m., in Room 100, Robison Hall Annex, while the staff meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 9:30–11 a.m., in Wilson Auditorium, Dickinson Hall. The May 17 meeting will be followed by the Annual Commencement Celebration Dinner at 6 p.m. in the Rothman Center. An end-of-year meeting for College at Florham faculty and staff will be held on Monday, June 14, 2 p.m., in Lenfell Hall, Hennessy Hall, College at Florham. It will be followed by an ice cream social at 3 p.m. in the Cafeteria, Student Center.
• The Opera at Florham is sponsoring two events — an operalogue in May and an opera cabaret in June. On Sunday, May 23, Robert Butts, music coordinator and conductor of the Opera at Florham, will hold an operalogue on “Rigoletto.” The event is at 3 p.m. in the Orangerie of the College at Florham Library. Tickets are $5 for the general public and free for Opera at Florham members. To complement the operalogue, an opera cabaret of Guiseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto” will be held on Sunday, June 6, 3 p.m., in Dreyfuss Theater, Dreyfuss Building, College at Florham. Tickets are $45 for reserved seats, $35 for the general public, $30 for senior citizens and $10 for students. For reservation and information on both events call 973-443-8620.
• More than 350 students, staff, faculty and alumni raised more than $32,000 for the American Cancer Society at the first-ever Relay for Life event in the Metropolitan Campus.
• The winners of the second recycling quiz are Dolores Little, records/graduate specialist, enrollment services (Flor), and student Michael Montouri. Recycling Quiz #2 answers are: Recycling a glass bottle saves enough energy to power a 100W light bulb for how long? (4 hours); Americans throw away enough used motor oil to fill how many supertankers (120); What is the number one cause of oil pollution in the U.S.? (Improper disposal methods); Using recycled motor oil saves how much energy (percent) over generating new oil from crude? (30 percent); How many pounds of newspaper waste does the average American household generate per month? (20); How many trees will it take to supply one American with a lifetime of paper? (450); Recycling one ton of newspaper saves the lives of how many adult trees? (17); Recycling one ton of paper saves how much water compared to new-paper generation? (7,000 gallons); How many years does it take for plastic bags to decompose? (15 years); How many years does it take for glass bottles to decompose? (1,000,000 years).
• Explore FDU! Information Sessions will be held through June in Hennessy Hall at the College at Florham and in Dickinson Hall at the Metropolitan Campus. Prospective students will have the chance to meet admissions staff; learn about FDU’s majors, study-abroad opportunities, honors programs, scholarships and financial-aid opportunities; and go on a student-guided tour of the campuses and their residence halls. Information sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 7; Saturday, May 15; Tuesday, May 25; Thursday, June 3; Saturday, June 12; Saturday, June 26; and Wednesday, June 30. • Adult Information Sessions and Adult Open Houses will be held at the College at Florham and the Metropolitan Campus during the summer. A general information session with Anita Rivers, director of adult admissions and coordinator, adult student intake (Metro), will be held on Saturday, May 15, 6–8 p.m., in the Lobby and Room 1171 of Dickinson Hall, Metropolitan Campus. An information session on business and individualized studies programs will be held on Thursday, May 13, 6–8 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room, second floor, Ferguson Recreation Center, College at Florham. Adult and graduate information sessions will be held on Tuesday, June 22, at the Hartman Lounge, Hennessy Hall, College at Florham, and on Thursday, June 24, and Thursday, July 15, at the Wilson Auditorium, Dickinson Hall, Metropolitan Campus. All three sessions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. The adult open houses will be held on Thursday, August 5, 6–8 p.m., also in Wilson Auditorium, Dickinson Hall, Metropolitan Campus, and on Tuesday, August 17, 6–8 p.m., in Lenfell Hall, Hennessy Hall, College at Florham.
