International Visitors and Cultural Outreach
A commissioner for the African Union, a Fulbright scholar from Belgium and international students participated in a variety of events recently.
African Union
Jean Pierre Ezin, commissioner for the department of human resources, science and technologies of the African Union, visited FDU’s New Jersey campuses on April 23.
During his visit, Ezin discussed the vision and action agenda of the African Union, current status of the action agenda for the Pan African University and highlighted its potential technical-assistance role for FDU. President J. Michael Adams provided Ezin with an overview of the University and the International Association of University President, of which he is president-elect.
Ezin also had lunch with members of the University community, toured the College at Florham and met with faculty and staff at the Metropolitan Campus.
Fulbright Scholar
The Office of Global Learning hosted a lecture by Gorik Ooms, a Fulbright scholar; Global Justice Fellow, Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, Yale University; and human rights lawyer from Belgium on “Two Approaches to Health Care Sustainability: National and Global” on March 31 at the Metropolitan Campus. The presentation asked students to consider current aid theories and dilemmas. It was recorded and may be viewed online at the Global Issues Gateway website (http://www.gig.org).
In the afternoon, Ooms led a faculty workshop on “Global Responsibility for Global Health Rights.” He focused on his research in global health care and his experience with Doctors Without Borders, which was meant to foster a discussion of global responsibility for health care around the world.
International Students
Seven international FDU students, accompanied by Diana Cvitan, director, global learning (Metro), visited Harbor High School in Bronx, N.Y., on March 12 to speak about their respective countries and cultures, their perspectives on global education and the importance of higher education as the key to future success.
