Spotlight on new faculty: A Q&A with Dr. Lotfi Tadj
Interview by Catherine Krawiec
FDU welcomes the newest Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Decision Sciences, Dr. Lotfi Tadj, to the Silberman College of Business at FDU-Vancouver.
FDU: Tell us about your new position…
LT: I am an assistant professor in the Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences. I am responsible for mathematics, statistics, management information systems, and operations management courses.
FDU: What sparked your passion in this field?
LT: There were no computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones when I was a kid. I loved reading. After reading a few books about the greatest mathematicians of all times, I became fascinated with mathematics. My undergraduate degree is in mathematics, and while studying I discovered operations research. Operations Research is the discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to help make better decisions. It is bridging the gap between theory and practice. I loved the field and it has been my occupation since then.
FDU: What is something that you would like to contribute to FDU?
LT: I hope that my contribution to FDU would be to equip students with the necessary skills to compete and lead in the global marketplace.
FDU: What is something that you hope your students will take away from your class?
LT: I hope students will understand and be able to use statistical techniques and mathematical modeling to analyze complex situations. I believe that this ability gives decision makers the power to make more effective decisions and build more productive systems.
