A Grand Time at the College at Florham
Tucked in the corner of Lenfell Hall sits a Steinway Concert D piano, donated long ago to the university by Fairleigh Dickinson Jr., son of FDU’s benefactor and namesake. The recently reconditioned grand piano was rededicated in a ceremony on Tuesday, December 10.
“This is a stunning nine foot instrument, and the preferred choice of top flight performers,” said College at Florham Provost Peter Woolley. “We are delighted to have it, and delighted to have had it reconditioned for a new generation of musicians.”

The Steinway Concert D model is considered the piano maker’s flagship model and is the most popular choice worldwide for professional concert pianists.
To inaugurate the reconditioned instrument, professor Allen Cohen performed “Seascapes,” an original composition. Ann Dickinson, the daughter of Fairleigh Dickinson Jr., was in attendance.
The piano was sent away to A.C. Pianocraft in Long Island City for a process that took several months.
