Fairleigh Dickinson University President Sheldon Drucker recently met with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the U.N.s New York City headquarters.

FDU has been associated with the U.N. since the birth of the world body and what the Secretary-General has described as a well-worn path has been cultivated between the two global institutions. This connection has been deepened in recent years as FDU earned accreditation as a nongovernmental organization (NGO) associated with the U.N. Department of Public Information in 2002 and in 2009, was approved for Special Consultative Status with the U.N,s NGO Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

These designations provide the FDU community special access to the United Nations. FDU is the first university in the world to achieve this ECOSOC status and it allows the University to appoint staff and faculty members to serve on U.N. committees

In 2008, Ban addressed the FDU community at the College at Florham and the University bestowed him with an honorary doctorate.
