Alumna Dances at Superbowl
FDU alumna Simone Portera (on the left above, and second from the left below) danced with the Bearfoot Dancers at the Superbowl XLVIII halftime show.
Simone Portera (Florham, BA ’07, MAT ’08) was on the field as part of the Superbowl XLVIII half time show. Portera and the rest of the Bearfoot Dancers, which perform for the Somerset Bears Football Team of the Major League Football Organization, were part of a group of over 900 performers.
The dancers attended three practices before the big show, which ranged from five to seven hours each. They were given simple choreographed moves, which included fist pumping, jumping, and singing all the lyrics to the songs performed. The Bearfoot Dancers were positioned in one of the most desirable places in the entire stadium as they were unexpectedly put right next to the stage.
In addition to dancing at Somerset Bears games, the Bearfoot Dancers also perform at charity and community events throughout NJ. The volunteer, nonprofit dance team holds auditions annually during the spring.
